The EndoActivator is a battery-powered sonic handpiece used to activate endodontic irrigants and disrupt the smear layer and biofilm. A flexible polymer tip oscillates in the canal, producing hydrodynamic shear that is more effective than passive needle irrigation for debris removal, particularly in the apical third and in isthmuses.
- Shape the canal to its final size.
- Fill the canal with NaOCl.
- Insert the tip 2 mm short of working length. Do not bind.
- Activate for 30–60 seconds per canal, moving the tip 2–3 mm up and down.
- Rinse with saline or EDTA 17%, then repeat with NaOCl.
- Tips are single-use (flexible polymer).
- Effective for disrupting biofilm and removing smear layer when used with NaOCl + EDTA.
- Comparable outcomes reported vs. ultrasonic activation in many in-vitro studies, with easier handling.
- Replacement tips (Dentsply): Small Yellow (15/.02), Medium Red (25/.04), Large Blue (35/.04)
- Irrigants: 3–6% NaOCl, 17% EDTA, 2% CHX
- Needles: Pair with side-vented needle for delivery before activation
